Tara MacLean has left Canadian pop trio Shaye, but Kim Stockwood and Damhnait Doyle will continue to perform and record under the name.
"I need to be able to set the pace for my own life/career so that I may parent in the way that I feel is right for me," MacLean wrote on her website on Monday. "I would hold back the girls if I were to continue on with them because I do not move through the world at the same speed nor in the same manner.
"There is also the consideration of finances and artistic freedom that added to my need to change course now. It feels right."
"It's been an amazing five years, an incredible journey," Stockwood says. "And I don't think the journey is over yet. Dav and I are both excited about the future."
MacLean, who is three months pregnant with her third child, had to bow out of Shaye due to family demands. The women, who all had solo careers and were friends before teaming up to record 2003's The Bridge, will continue pursuing their individual goals.
Stockwood is gearing up to spend December touring with John McDermott and performing songs from last year's Christmas album, I Love Santa.
Doyle is preparing a solo album of cover songs called Lights Down Low. She also has a book out called Miscellaneous Female and has been writing and recording songs with a number of artists.
MacLean's last solo effort, Signs Of Life, was released by Nettwerk in March.
The three women shot a four-part television series called Shaye that ended its run on the E! Network last week. It will begin airing on CMT Canada soon. The series followed the group as they attempted to balance their career with their families and personal lives while promoting their newest album, Lake Of Fire, which was released in February.
MacLean goes into detail in another website diary entry about the tension that arose between her and Doyle about the latter's trip to Afghanistan (which she writes about in her book) to perform for Canadian troops stationed there, a subject that was brought up in episode three of Shaye.
You can catch Shaye at OLG Slots At Georgrian Downs in Barrie, Ont. on Oct. 19 and at the Markham Theatre in Markham, Ont. on March 1.
